My buddy @jakemayphoto set some big goals for the year, so I went to Michigan to learn more about them, and to make a few portraits. “This year, I am dedicating to finding myself and self care. It’s my mission to be kind to me, and to love myself. I will do so by treating my body well, through a health and fitness routine, eating well and treating myself to vacations, shows, theater, books, hiking, walking, visiting friends and family and simply choosing people and activities that I find joy in

Pulled out the old hard drives to make a few prints and got lost down a rabbit hole (see stories) revisiting one of my first series, FRESH (2012-2014). The project was simple, but loaded with personal meaning after spending almost 10 years exploring food in California’s Central Valley. This work also marked a big transition for me personally, as I shifted more creative energy from marketing to photography, and started to plan my move to NYC. I usually find it difficult to revisit old work, but it’s fun to look back and see how this has all woven through relationships over the years. What a crazy ride.

Adding to the list of towns I’ve mispronounced down here: Delacroix (“del-uh-crow”), a small fishing community in St. Bernard Parish, resettled by Isleños in the early 1800s. Surrounding the town is a series of canals and small marshy islands (like this one), home to a wide variety of fish and wildlife. In the 1930s, a road was built to connect the “island” to the mainland—a sign where it dead-ends reads, “The End of the World
