Adding to the list of towns I’ve mispronounced down here: Delacroix (“del-uh-crow”), a small fishing community in St. Bernard Parish, resettled by Isleños in the early 1800s. Surrounding the town is a series of canals and small marshy islands (like this one), home to a wide variety of fish and wildlife. In the 1930s, a road was built to connect the “island” to the mainland—a sign where it dead-ends reads, “The End of the World
